Meet The Team: Dave

Dave is the warehouse and logistics manager at Quest, he manages the team who operate across 13SF of warehouse. As orders come into the sales team they are placed on the system and then processed by the warehouse.

Orders placed by local businesses are shipped out through our fleet of vans, orders placed further afield are delivered through a network of couriers.

Dave’s role is to manage the Quest staff resources and ensure that all orders are correctly picked and dispatched from the warehouse and delivered on time.

Dave commented “Each day is different for me, the only consistent is that we have a quick huddle meeting each day in the morning where I relay any feedback or delegate tasks that need addressing”

Dave’s Typical Day

7am address any issues the drivers have before they go out on their routes

9am daily huddle with the team in the warehouse

Throughout the day, Dave moves around resources in the warehouse to make sure all orders are picked and dispatched and all other necessary tasks are completed, such as putting away stock arrivals, managing returns and making sure the warehouse is kept tidy and organised.

Dave added “I’ve done every job in the warehouse and I’ve been a driver at Quest so I’m well placed to help everyone if they come up against an issue. I’m very hands on and sometimes join the teams myself and help with picking or dispatch, I also cover the trade counter when needed so I get to meet our customers in person which is great”

As well as working on day to day issues Dave also implements longer term projects where he looks to improve picking routes, so the team can pick orders with the shortest route possible, this involves moving regularly purchased items to the front of the warehouse and stocking items that are often ordered to together in the same location.

Dave added “For picking items and putting away we use hand scanners, this speeds up the process and reduces any errors, we are always looking to improve efficiencies in the warehouse and logistics so that we can create a continuous improvement of service for our customers.
