Meet the Team : Octavian
Octavian is a member of the warehouse team, he picks orders and puts away items that are delivered into the warehouse. At Quest we have 14,443 products across 13,000 SF of space, but thankfully we have a very logical and efficient system to pick and deliver items as they are ordered.
Orders appear on the screen of a computer unit in the warehouse, Octavian and others print off these orders on an order sheet and pick each item on the list, then they put them into a tray that is passed to dispatch.
Each product has a location route code and a variant code, Octavian uses these codes to quickly find each product and update the stock system with a handheld scanner. Purchasing are automatically updated with stock levels, ensuring we always have optimum stock levels.
When Octavian puts away items that have been delivered to Quest, our system allows him to scan the barcode on each item which reveals a designated stock location in the warehouse, once the item is put away Octavian uses the scanner to update the stock system.
Octavian, commented “The handheld scanners help us update the system quickly and easily, allowing us to pick more items in less time”.
Any picking errors that occur are always investigated and the warehouse systems are continuously being improved to reduce errors. Recently improvements have involved moving stock sections to optimise use of space and grouping products for ease of picking.
Octavian, added “There is a fantastic team spirit in the warehouse, we have a brief huddle meeting each morning where we are kept up to date with any procedure changes, and it’s also an opportunity for us to exchange ideas to improve picking methods”.
